Tell NVEEE’s Story and Build the Relationships Behind It.

This committee shapes how the public, partners, and supporters see National Voices for Equality, Education, and Enlightenment (NVEEE). Interns support marketing and communications across the organization, introduce NVEEE to companies and community partners, support media and public relations, create social media and design work, write and edit content, and maintain nveee.org. The work supports every part of the organization: youth leadership and education programs, fundraising campaigns, events, community initiatives, and recruitment. Interns work under the supervision of NVEEE staff and the Executive Director.

Have an idea? Propose your own project.

You do not have to wait to be assigned work. Interns are welcome to propose a project, and we will develop it together.

Supporting the students in our programs

High school students in NVEEE’s year-round leadership program spend the year building résumés, applying for scholarships and awards, and leading six-month service projects. They need college students behind them. Here is how this committee helps.

  • Help lead workshops for students on promoting a cause: writing a flyer, a social media post, and a short press release.
  • Help student teams design flyers and graphics for their service project events.
  • Help lead workshops on professional email, LinkedIn, and presenting yourself online.
  • Film and share student project stories and highlights from the project showcase.
  • Help students turn their work into simple portfolios they can show colleges and employers.

Subcommittees

Marketing & Public Relations supports marketing strategy and partner relationships. Social Media Content Creation, Creative Services, and Content Writing & Copy Editing produce the content. Website Development & Maintenance runs nveee.org. All five work closely together.

Marketing & Public Relations

You support NVEEE’s marketing and public relations work across the organization, and help introduce NVEEE to companies and partners who can support its work. This subcommittee focuses on strategy, relationships, and results; hands-on design and content production happen in the creative subcommittees.

What you’ll do

  • Help develop organization-wide marketing and communications plans, with goals, audiences, key messages, and timelines.
  • Promote NVEEE’s mission, programs, services, events, and campaigns to families, schools, partners, and the public.
  • Research corporations, local businesses, and small-business owners whose values and audiences align with NVEEE’s.
  • Reach out to corporate marketing, communications, and community relations departments to explore sponsorships and partnerships that benefit both organizations.
  • Support corporate sponsorship prospecting, presentations, partnership proposals, and follow-up communications, in coordination with the Fundraising, Sponsorships & Grants committee.
  • Build media lists, draft press releases and pitches, and support public relations campaigns that raise NVEEE’s visibility in the community.
  • Monitor brand consistency, audience engagement, and campaign performance, and report results with recommendations.

Skills you’ll build: marketing strategy, public relations, corporate outreach, partnership development, and marketing analytics. You will also gain experience introducing an organization to potential corporate partners and supporting long-term sponsorship relationships. These skills carry into marketing, public relations, corporate communications, business development, and corporate social responsibility.

Social Media Content Creation

You help plan, create, and publish social media content for NVEEE’s programs, organizational campaigns, events, fundraising, and community initiatives. You work closely with Creative Services so every post is on brand.

Required experience: Graphic design experience, including familiarity with basic design principles: color, spacing, layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and branding.

What you’ll do

  • Develop social media content for NVEEE’s programs, organizational campaigns, events, fundraising, and community initiatives.
  • Use ChatGPT, Claude, and other approved AI tools to brainstorm, draft, and plan content, then review every draft for accuracy, appropriateness, accessibility, originality, and consistency with NVEEE’s voice before it is published.
  • Use Canva and the NVEEE brand kit to create flyers, graphics, carousels, and branded social media materials.
  • Create and edit short-form videos and other multimedia content.
  • Help maintain content calendars and coordinate publishing across NVEEE’s accounts.
  • Adapt messaging for each platform and audience, from Instagram and TikTok to LinkedIn and Facebook.
  • Review engagement and performance data, and use what you learn to improve future content.

Skills you’ll build: content strategy, social media design, short-form video, copywriting, responsible AI use, and social media analytics. These skills carry into digital marketing, brand management, communications, and content creation.

Creative Services

You design and produce NVEEE’s creative materials for the whole organization, from campaign graphics to videos.

Required experience: Demonstrated graphic design experience; knowledge of color theory, typography, spacing, composition, and layout; and proficiency with design tools such as Canva.

What you’ll do

  • Design organizational marketing and promotional materials that follow NVEEE’s visual identity.
  • Create flyers, brochures, presentations, campaign graphics, and digital assets.
  • Develop visual materials for fundraising campaigns, events, community outreach, and youth programs.
  • Produce graphics and creative assets for social media, working with Social Media Content Creation.
  • Support video production, photography, and multimedia storytelling.
  • Maintain consistency with NVEEE’s brand guide, templates, and shared asset library.
  • Collaborate with Social Media Content Creation and Marketing & Public Relations on campaign visuals and partnership materials.

Skills you’ll build: graphic design, layout, visual storytelling, video editing, brand management, and working from feedback. These skills carry into graphic design, advertising, film and media, and user experience design.

Content Writing & Copy Editing

You support writing and editorial work throughout NVEEE, from program descriptions to donor appeals, and make sure everything is accurate and clear before it goes out.

What you’ll do

  • Write and edit descriptions and recaps for all of NVEEE’s youth programs.
  • Draft website copy and organizational updates.
  • Develop newsletter articles and email communications for families, alumni, partners, and supporters.
  • Write blog posts, feature stories, and community impact stories, including interviews with students, alumni, volunteers, and partners.
  • Support donor communications, fundraising appeals, and campaign messaging.
  • Help draft press releases, announcements, and other public-facing materials.
  • Edit materials for grammar, clarity, accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and brand voice, and help maintain a shared style guide.

Skills you’ll build: professional writing, research and fact-checking, interviewing, storytelling, editing, and writing for different audiences, from parents to donors to the press. These skills carry into journalism, communications, publishing, law, and marketing.

Website Development & Maintenance

You help maintain and improve the entire NVEEE website, working in WordPress and Elementor.

Required experience: Prior experience working with WordPress; experience with Elementor; working knowledge of HTML; demonstrated ability to make and troubleshoot website updates; and an understanding of responsive design and basic website usability.

What you’ll do

  • Update and maintain pages across the NVEEE website.
  • Create and improve organizational, program, campaign, and resource pages.
  • Work in WordPress and Elementor, using HTML only where it is justified, so staff can maintain pages without code.
  • Maintain navigation, links, forms, and downloadable resources.
  • Improve mobile responsiveness, accessibility, and user experience.
  • Support search engine optimization, site performance, and content organization.
  • Test updates on the staging site before approved changes go live.

Skills you’ll build: website architecture, content management, WordPress and Elementor, accessibility, search engine optimization, analytics, and troubleshooting. These skills carry into web development, digital marketing, user experience design, and information technology.
