Prepare for the Interview
Partner With NVEEE’s College Internship Program
NVEEE’s College Internship Program gives students supervised, real-world experience at a national nonprofit that works to prevent bullying, violence, and suicide through youth leadership and education. Interns work remotely on one of five committees under the supervision of NVEEE staff and the Executive Director, who set each committee’s priorities and review its work.
colleges and universities our interns come from
specialized subcommittees across five committees
terms a year: fall, spring and summer
PALS awards earned by former interns in 2025
How the program works
- Each intern joins one primary committee and works on assignments connected to active NVEEE programs.
- Every week includes a 90-minute All-Team Meeting and a one-hour committee meeting on Zoom.
- Interns check in and out of every shift on the Intern Hub and track their tasks in Asana, so their work and time are documented from the first day.
- Supervisors give feedback throughout the term, and every internship ends with a written evaluation.
What your students gain
Supervised experience in communications, fundraising, community outreach, youth programs, operations, research, or technology
Practice with the tools employers use, including Google Workspace, Asana, Slack, Zoom, and Canva
Regular feedback, a final evaluation, and a certificate of completion; interns who complete the internship successfully can request letters of recommendation
Documentation for academic credit, service-learning, or practicum requirements
Optional leadership roles as a committee chair, co-chair, or secretary
Work samples they can show employers and graduate programs
The standard we hold ourselves to
We treat this internship as preparation for the workforce, not a line on a résumé. Every intern is selected through an interview that includes a live skills exercise, receives regular feedback, and is evaluated at the end of the term. We want every student to gain as much from NVEEE as they contribute to it.
Learning That Leaves the Screen
Most of the internship is remote, but your students do not have to stay behind a screen. Interns can lead workshops for high school students on university campuses, help run service days in South Florida, and facilitate live online sessions from anywhere. NVEEE staff review every workshop before it is delivered, and we can document these hours for service-learning and practicum requirements.
- A week at PALS (summer, on campus): the Peace Ambassador Leadership Summit at Georgetown University, Duke University, the University of Central Florida or Florida State University, where interns can be selected as Senior Counselors.
- PALP sessions and service days (October–June, South Florida): monthly in-person sessions with the Peace Ambassador Leadership Program.
- Live, online (every intern, every term): virtual workshops, breakout rooms and written feedback on students’ résumés and essays.
All work with students happens in group sessions supervised by NVEEE staff, or as written feedback.
How We Recognize Your Students
Students who do strong work are recognized for it, during the internship and long after it ends. Every intern who finishes in good standing receives a certificate of completion listing their committee, hours and major projects, and can request letters of recommendation for jobs, graduate school and law school.
2016 · The White House
Interns who helped prepare our anti-bullying acknowledgment joined the NVEEE delegation during National Anti-Bullying Week.
2019 · NVEEE Day
Nine former interns were honored at the Upstander Awards on the day Miami-Dade County proclaimed NVEEE Day.
2025 · PALS Mentor Awards
Six former interns returned as college mentors and earned 11 awards at PALS at Georgetown University, the University of Central Florida and Florida International University.
2026 · Semester Awards
Seven awards are now presented every term, and Intern of the Month every month.
Academic Credit & Practicums
NVEEE welcomes students completing for-credit internships, service-learning requirements, and graduate practicums. Interns gain experience across a national nonprofit, including communications, fundraising, community outreach, youth programs, operations, research, and technology. All interns work under the supervision of NVEEE staff and the Executive Director. Upon request, NVEEE provides documentation of hours, descriptions of assigned responsibilities, and supervisor evaluations. Students should send their school’s forms and deadlines to internship@nveee.org early in the term. For a typical shift, the weekly schedule and the time-off policy, see A Day in the Life.
Share the Opportunity With Your Students
Career centers, faculty and student organizations are welcome to share this internship with students. NVEEE posts on Handshake and works with university career offices nationwide. Download the printable flyer for your office, newsletter or job board, or the social media graphic to share online. To discuss a partnership, email internship@nveee.org.
Who can apply
Undergraduates (rising sophomores and above) and graduate students in any major. First-year students who took part in PALS or PALP are also eligible.
When to apply
Rolling admission. Final deadlines: November 1 (spring), March 1 (summer) and April 15 (fall). See the Term Calendar & Deadlines.
Time commitment
25 to 40 hours a week, remote, between 9 AM and 8 PM Eastern. A 20-hour week is available when a school requires 20 hours for credit.

Unpaid internships and the law
NVEEE’s internships are unpaid, and we structure the program around the U.S. Department of Labor’s guidance on internships. Interns receive training similar to what they would receive in an educational setting; the internship can be tied to their coursework and follows the academic calendar; their work complements, rather than replaces, the work of staff; and both NVEEE and the intern understand from the start that there is no expectation of pay or of a job at the end. Interns do not perform employee-style work. They do not run programs, set policy, or prepare budgets or financial reports, and they work under staff supervision at all times.
The Department of Labor also notes that unpaid internships at nonprofit charitable organizations are generally permissible when the intern volunteers without expectation of compensation.
