Secure the Resources That Keep NVEEE’s Work Going.

This committee works alongside the Executive Director to fund the mission of National Voices for Equality, Education, and Enlightenment (NVEEE). Interns research prospective donors, sponsors, and grants; support corporate sponsorship outreach and fundraising campaigns; help steward donors and sponsors; and support fundraising communications and events. It offers direct, early exposure to how nonprofits are financed. Interns work under the supervision of NVEEE staff and the Executive Director.

Types of projects interns work on

Examples from work interns have done across NVEEE.

  • Research individuals, foundations, and companies that could support NVEEE.
  • Help build sponsorship proposals and presentations for programs, events, and campaigns.
  • Contact local businesses for in-kind donations, such as meals, supplies, equipment, and services.
  • Research grants and track application deadlines.
  • Help draft grant proposal sections and gather supporting documents.
  • Write thank-you letters and impact updates, and track what each sponsor was promised.
  • Help run Give Miami Day and other annual fundraising campaigns.
  • Help plan fundraising events and peer-to-peer campaigns.
  • Create a toolkit that helps supporters run their own fundraisers.
  • Keep donor and sponsor records accurate and organized.

Supporting the students in our programs

High school students in NVEEE’s year-round leadership program spend the year building résumés, applying for scholarships and awards, and leading six-month service projects. They need college students behind them. Here is how this committee helps.

  • Help lead workshops on how to find and apply for scholarships, awards, and grants.
  • Review students’ scholarship and award applications and give feedback before they submit.
  • Coach student teams as they write a funding pitch and ask businesses for donations for their projects.
  • Research youth grants and awards students can apply for, and help keep the scholarship and opportunity list current.
  • Help students track application deadlines and the documents each one requires.

Subcommittees

Each committee divides its work into subcommittees. Here is what each one does, week to week.

Grant Research & Proposals

You help find and pursue the grants that fund NVEEE’s programs and operations.

What you’ll do

  • Search for grants that match NVEEE’s mission and programs, and track eligibility requirements and deadlines.
  • Add new opportunities to the grant database, with funder priorities, award amounts, and contacts.
  • Help draft proposal sections, such as needs statements, program descriptions, and expected outcomes.
  • Gather the data, stories, budgets, and documents each application requires.
  • Track submission deadlines and follow-ups so no application is missed.
  • Help update the grant deliverable tracker and prepare the reports due after an award.
  • Research workplace giving and matching gift programs, such as the United Way Workplace Campaign.

Skills you’ll build: grant research, persuasive writing, attention to detail, and deadline management. These skills carry into nonprofit management, development, public administration, and research.

General Research Related to NVEEE’s Mission

You gather the information the committee needs to make good fundraising decisions, including prospect research.

What you’ll do

  • Research prospective individual, foundation, and corporate donors, and summarize their giving interests.
  • Research organizations similar to NVEEE to learn how they raise support.
  • Analyze past fundraising results, such as previous Give Miami Day campaigns, in Google Sheets.
  • Research new revenue ideas, such as program sponsorships, student sponsorships, and recurring giving.
  • Help set fundraising goals for each campaign and track progress throughout the year.
  • Follow fundraising trends and best practices, and share what you learn with the team.
  • Prepare short research briefs for the Executive Director.

Skills you’ll build: prospect research, data analysis, Google Sheets, and clear summary writing. These skills carry into business analysis, consulting, nonprofit management, and economics.

General Fundraising

You help run NVEEE’s fundraising campaigns, communications, and events throughout the year.

What you’ll do

  • Help run Give Miami Day each November: donor emails, team captains, social posts, and thank-yous.
  • Help plan year-end, spring, and program-specific appeals by email, social media, phone, and direct mail.
  • Draft fundraising communications with the Marketing & Communications committee.
  • Set up peer-to-peer fundraising pages and support supporters who fundraise for NVEEE.
  • Help plan and support fundraising events, such as a 5K, a silent auction, or a community night at a local business.
  • Create wish lists of needed items on donation platforms.
  • Help with each campaign debrief: what worked, what did not, and what to try next time.

Skills you’ll build: campaign planning, fundraising communications, event coordination, email marketing, and fundraising analytics. These skills carry into development, marketing, event management, and nonprofit careers.

Sponsorships

You support NVEEE’s corporate sponsorships and in-kind partnerships, from first research to final thank-you.

What you’ll do

  • Research companies with corporate social responsibility and community giving programs that align with NVEEE’s mission.
  • Help build customizable sponsorship packages and a sponsorship deck for programs, events, and campaigns.
  • Send sponsorship proposals to companies, and follow up by phone and email.
  • Coordinate with Marketing & Public Relations when a company’s marketing or community relations team is involved.
  • Secure in-kind donations, such as meals, supplies, equipment, and professional services.
  • Find local businesses to sponsor meals for program meetings and events.
  • Track each sponsorship from first contact to fulfillment.

Skills you’ll build: business outreach, sponsorship sales writing, negotiation, and follow-through. These skills carry into sales, business development, corporate social responsibility, and event management.

Qualifications

All interns must meet the program requirements below. Preferred qualifications strengthen an application but are not required.

Required

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate (rising sophomore or above) or graduate student. First-year students who previously took part in PALS or PALP are also eligible.
  • Reliable internet, a working computer, and the ability to use Zoom.
  • Availability for 25 to 40 hours a week*, scheduled between 9 AM and 8 PM Eastern and including the weekly All-Team and committee meetings.
    *A 20-hour week is available when your college or university requires 20 hours for credit.
  • A signed confidentiality agreement before you begin work.

Preferred

  • Studying business, nonprofit management, public policy, English, or communications.
  • Comfort with professional phone and email outreach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage your time and work independently in a remote setting.
  • Commitment to social justice, mental health, and youth empowerment.
  • Leadership experience in clubs, organizations, or community service.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace. Experience with Microsoft 365 and project management tools is helpful.
