Connect NVEEE to the Schools, Partners, and Families Who Need It.

This committee builds the relationships that connect National Voices for Equality, Education, and Enlightenment (NVEEE) with the people it serves and the organizations that support its work. Interns recruit students, volunteers, and interns; build partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations; share trusted wellness resources; and keep families and alumni engaged with NVEEE’s programs, events, and initiatives. Interns work under the supervision of NVEEE staff and the Executive Director.

Types of projects interns work on

Examples from work interns have done across NVEEE.

  • Call and email high school counselors to share NVEEE’s youth programs with their students.
  • Research university departments, offices, and student organizations that could partner with NVEEE.
  • Create partnership packets and presentations for schools and community organizations.
  • Follow up with families who request program information, and help run information sessions.
  • Post internship and volunteer opportunities, and build relationships with career centers and volunteer platforms.
  • Recruit college volunteers and mentors for NVEEE programs and events.
  • Help with intern retention through check-ins, recognition, and community events.
  • Gather trusted mental health resources and help update the High School Survival Guide.
  • Help run the Share the Care campaign, from building the recipient list to sending follow-up messages.
  • Build the community partner list and find organizations that can host student service projects.
  • Reconnect with alumni through spotlight stories and reunion events.

Have an idea? Propose your own project.

You do not have to wait to be assigned work. Interns are welcome to propose a project, and we will develop it together.

Supporting the students in our programs

High school students in NVEEE’s year-round leadership program spend the year building résumés, applying for scholarships and awards, and leading six-month service projects. They need college students behind them. Here is how this committee helps.

  • Find organizations where student teams can volunteer and lead projects, such as shelters, food banks, schools, and hospitals, and make the first introduction.
  • Build a list of community partners willing to host student service projects, organized by cause and location, including partners for students outside South Florida.
  • Help student teams prepare to contact a partner: what to say, what to ask for, and how to follow up.
  • Find local events and opportunities where students can earn verified service hours.
  • Recruit professionals who can speak to students about their careers or serve as mentors.
  • Connect students and families with mental health and community resources.

Subcommittees

Each committee divides its work into subcommittees. Here is what each one does, week to week.

Volunteer & Intern Recruitment and Retention

You help bring interns and volunteers onto the NVEEE team, and help make sure they have a good experience once they join.

What you’ll do

  • Post NVEEE internships and volunteer opportunities on Handshake, VolunteerMatch, Idealist, and university job boards, and keep every listing current.
  • Build partnerships with university career centers, academic departments, student organizations, and exchange programs that connect students with internship and volunteer roles.
  • Recruit college volunteers and mentors for NVEEE’s programs and events.
  • Help review applications, track applicants in Google Sheets, and report which outreach sources bring in the strongest candidates.
  • Help schedule orientation sessions for new interns on a rolling basis as they join, based on each intern’s start date, and make sure every new intern receives the orientation materials before their first day.
  • Help maintain the systems that track the projects each intern is working on, so progress stays visible and work carries over from one term to the next.
  • Help with retention: welcome new interns, check in on how they are doing, and let a supervisor know when someone may need support.
  • Help run recognition such as Intern of the Month and Slack shoutouts, plan community events such as virtual coffee chats, and help collect exit survey feedback and grow the intern alumni group on LinkedIn.

Skills you’ll build: recruitment, partnership building, applicant tracking, team engagement, and program evaluation. These skills carry into human resources, volunteer management, higher education, and nonprofit management.

Mental Health & Wellness

You help gather and share trusted resources that support the well-being of the students and families NVEEE serves.

What you’ll do

  • Research and compile vetted resources, such as hotlines, counseling services, and self-care guides from reputable organizations, for students and families in NVEEE’s programs.
  • Build and update a directory of mental health organizations in the communities NVEEE serves, so staff can connect families with help quickly.
  • Review program survey results to learn what students say they need, so resources match their real concerns.
  • Help update the High School Survival Guide with practical tips on managing stress, time, and school pressure.
  • Help plan self-care activities for NVEEE programs and events, such as journaling stations, quiet spaces, gratitude walls, and movement breaks, with guidance from NVEEE staff.
  • Turn information from reputable sources into posts for Mental Health Awareness Month and other observances, reviewed by staff before they are shared.
  • Help run the Share the Care campaign, from the recipient preference form to follow-up messages after kits are delivered, and work with Creative Services on related videos and graphics.

Skills you’ll build: research, resource curation, health communication, and campaign coordination. These skills carry into social work, psychology, public health, counseling, and education.

Strategic Partnerships

You find organizations that can help NVEEE reach more young people, and prepare the materials to approach them.

What you’ll do

  • Research nonprofits, agencies, companies, and community groups whose missions align with NVEEE’s.
  • Build and maintain the community partner list, with contacts, notes, and follow-up dates.
  • Help create the community partnership deck and the “About NVEEE” information deck.
  • Help draft a pilot program proposal and partnership plan for a local school district.
  • Find organizations where students can complete Community Impact Projects and service hours.
  • Help invite partners and local leaders to NVEEE programs and events, and follow up afterward.
  • Help keep partner organizations informed of program details and updates.

Skills you’ll build: partnership development, research, business writing, presentation design, and relationship management. These skills carry into business development, public policy, nonprofit management, and corporate social responsibility.

Secondary & Collegiate Partnerships

You connect NVEEE with high schools and universities, which is how most students find NVEEE’s programs.

What you’ll do

  • Call and email high school counselors in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties and the Orlando area to share NVEEE’s youth programs with their students.
  • Keep the high school counselor database current, with names, emails, and notes from each call.
  • Research departments, offices, and student clubs at universities that host or could host NVEEE programs, such as the summer leadership summits.
  • Help create partnership packets tailored to high schools, colleges, and student organizations.
  • Help draft partnership request emails and a collegiate outreach plan.
  • Ask program alumni and student leaders to share NVEEE opportunities with their own schools.
  • Connect with fraternities, sororities, and campus organizations that may volunteer, partner, or help spread the word.

Skills you’ll build: outreach, professional calling and email writing, database management, and proposal writing. These skills carry into education, admissions, sales, and community relations.

General Outreach

You keep families, alumni, and the wider community connected to NVEEE.

What you’ll do

  • Follow up with families who request program information through our website, Eventbrite, or TeenLife.
  • Help run information sessions on Zoom and answer common questions.
  • Reconnect with former participants and junior counselors, and invite them back as volunteers and ambassadors.
  • Collect alumni stories for the Alumni Spotlight and help plan alumni events.
  • Help plan local events and information tables that connect NVEEE with families and the community.
  • Share NVEEE opportunities with libraries, YMCAs, tutoring centers, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and other youth organizations.
  • Help prepare materials for internship fairs and community events, such as flyers and table displays.

Skills you’ll build: community engagement, customer service, event coordination, and public speaking. These skills carry into public relations, community organizing, admissions, and nonprofit management.
