Prepare for the Interview
Help Build the Programs Young Leaders Experience.
This committee supports the students, families, and volunteers in the youth programs of National Voices for Equality, Education, and Enlightenment (NVEEE) throughout the year. That includes the year-round Peace Ambassador Leadership Program (PALP), the summer Peace Ambassador Leadership Summit (PALS), community and volunteer events, service projects, and workshops. Interns support students in supervised group sessions, coach service project teams, help plan events and workshops, and measure whether the programs are working. Interns work under the supervision of NVEEE staff and the Executive Director.
Types of projects interns work on
Examples from work interns have done across NVEEE.
- Support high school students in small-group sessions supervised by NVEEE staff, in person or over Zoom.
- Help lead group homework and study-skills sessions in subjects you know well.
- Review résumés, help run group mock interview practice, and give written feedback on scholarship and college essays.
- Help lead workshops on college planning, résumés, interview skills, and financial aid.
- Help students find and apply for scholarships, awards, and funded programs.
- Coach a student team through its six-month Community Impact Project.
- Help plan youth events, outings, service days, and volunteer events, including events with community partners such as the Miami Dolphins.
- Help plan the Service and Training Retreat and alumni events.
- Recruit guest speakers for our workshops and coordinate with them.
- Help develop workshops and digital tools for the NVEEE Empowerment & Success Hub.
- Help plan schedules and activities for the summer leadership summits.
- Analyze survey results to measure the impact of NVEEE’s programs.
Have an idea? Propose your own project.
You do not have to wait to be assigned work. Interns are welcome to propose a project, and we will develop it together.
Subcommittees
Each committee divides its work into subcommittees. Here is what each one does, week to week.
Student Success & Academic Support
You support high school students in NVEEE’s programs between sessions through group activities, workshops, and written feedback, the way an older sibling would. All of your work with students takes place in group settings supervised by NVEEE staff; interns do not meet with students one-on-one. Most of this happens over Zoom, so you can support students wherever they live.
What you’ll do
- Help staff run regular small-group check-ins on students’ goals, schoolwork, and deadlines.
- Help lead group homework and study-skills sessions in subjects you know well.
- Review résumés, help run group mock interview practice, and give written feedback on college and scholarship essays.
- Help students find scholarships, awards, and funded programs, and keep track of deadlines.
- Help seniors stay on track with college applications and financial aid paperwork through group clinics.
- Share what college and internships are really like, from choosing classes to writing a professional email.
- Help lead workshops for students on college planning, résumés, interview skills, and financial aid.
Skills you’ll build: group facilitation, coaching, giving useful feedback, and communicating with young people. These skills are valued in education, counseling, social work, health care, and management.
Community Impact Project Coaching
Students in NVEEE’s year-round leadership program spend six months planning and leading their own Community Impact Projects. Past teams packed more than 100 care crates for a women’s shelter and hosted a suicide-prevention 5K and kindness fair. You help student teams get from an idea to real results.
What you’ll do
- Coach a student team as it chooses a community need, sets goals, and builds a project plan with a timeline and a simple budget.
- Help students research the issue they chose and identify organizations already working on it.
- Support weekly team check-ins and help students divide responsibilities fairly.
- Help teams plan their own events, such as donation drives, community fairs, and awareness campaigns.
- Help students write emails to partners, prepare a funding pitch, and ask businesses for donations.
- Help students track their service hours and collect the evidence for their verified achievement records.
- Help teams measure their results and prepare final presentations for the project showcase.
Skills you’ll build: project management, coaching, partnership building, and problem-solving when plans change. These skills carry into education, nonprofit management, social work, and business.
Events & Activities Management
NVEEE hosts and supports events all year: student outings, community and volunteer events with partners such as the Miami Dolphins, service project events, information sessions, the Service and Training Retreat, alumni gatherings, and fundraising events such as the Give Miami Day 5K. You plan remotely with the team, and on-site staff and volunteers run the day.
What you’ll do
- Pitch event themes and activities, and help turn the strongest ideas into a written event plan with goals and an audience.
- Help build event timelines and the run of show: who does what, when, and where.
- Identify what each event needs, such as space, setup, sound, food, supplies, and volunteers, and coordinate with the teams securing venues and sponsors.
- Contact vendors and partners, and track orders, confirmations, and costs against the event budget.
- Create registration and sign-up forms, volunteer schedules, and day-of checklists, including accessibility and safety needs.
- Plan backups for bad weather, cancellations, and last-minute changes.
- After each event, collect feedback, photos, and attendance numbers, and write a short recap of what to improve.
Skills you’ll build: event planning, project timelines, cost tracking, vendor communication, risk planning, and attention to detail. These skills carry into event management, hospitality, education, and nonprofit careers.
Summer Conference Planning (PALS)
The Peace Ambassador Leadership Summit (PALS) brings high school students to university campuses, including the University of Central Florida, Florida State University, Duke University and Georgetown University, for a week of workshops, guest speakers, and leadership challenges. Months of remote planning go into each session, and you help make it happen.
What you’ll do
- Help build the hour-by-hour schedule for each campus, from morning workshops to evening activities.
- Research and recruit guest speakers and workshop presenters: send invitations, confirm dates, and collect bios and presentation files.
- Prepare speaker packets and agreements, and send thank-you notes and certificates after the program.
- Help match workshops to each campus theme and to the needs of that year’s students.
- Help prepare the content for the program book, workshop introductions, and graduation certificates.
- Keep the planning tracker current so every committee knows what is done and what is due.
- After each session, help gather feedback and record lessons for next year.
Skills you’ll build: project management, professional outreach, scheduling, and coordinating many moving parts against a fixed deadline. These skills carry into event management, education, and business careers.
Lesson Plan & Curriculum Design
You help create practical workshops and tools for students in NVEEE’s programs, drawing on what you know as a college student.
What you’ll do
- Help develop workshops on topics you know firsthand, such as college planning, applying for scholarships, financial aid, résumés, and interviews.
- Bring your own expertise: if you study finance, health science, technology, art, or another field, help create a workshop that introduces students to it.
- Create slides, handouts, activities, and facilitator notes that make each workshop engaging and easy to lead.
- Help develop workshops for each grade level, such as financial literacy, study skills, time management, and everyday life skills.
- Build grade-specific tools for the NVEEE Empowerment & Success Hub, such as résumé templates, scholarship trackers, project toolkits, and life-skills guides.
- Use student feedback and survey results to improve workshops for the next year.
- Make sure materials are inclusive, age-appropriate, and work for students both in person and online.
Skills you’ll build: instructional design, research, writing for young audiences, and presentation design. These skills carry into teaching, training, curriculum development, counseling, and human resources.
Survey & Data Analysis
Every grant application, sponsor pitch, and fundraising campaign NVEEE runs depends on evidence. You turn surveys, registrations, and program records into the numbers and stories that show the work matters.
What you’ll do
- Build and clean data sets from program surveys, registrations, attendance, and service hour records in Google Sheets.
- Analyze workshop ratings, post-program surveys, and wellbeing surveys across NVEEE’s programs.
- Track outcomes over time, such as student confidence, service hours, college plans, and alumni achievements.
- Turn findings into charts, dashboards, and one-page summaries for the board, sponsors, and grant applications.
- Build and update the impact statistics and student story bank used on the website, in campaigns, and in grant proposals.
- Analyze past fundraising and donor data to show which campaigns and audiences raise the most support.
- Compare results across years, recommend changes, and check every number before it is published so NVEEE’s claims are accurate and sourced.
Skills you’ll build: Google Sheets and Excel (formulas, pivot tables, and charts), survey analysis, data cleaning, data visualization, and turning numbers into clear stories. These skills carry into research, public health, business analytics, marketing, and nonprofit careers.
