As parents, we all want to give our teens the tools they need to thrive in college and beyond. With college admissions becoming more competitive, standing out from the crowd requires more than good grades. Leadership skills, real-world experience, and emotional intelligence are increasingly becoming the keys to success.

The Peace Ambassador Leadership Program (PALP) is an exceptional opportunity that equips students with these vital skills, preparing them for the challenges of college and life. Here’s how PALP transforms your teen’s future:

1. Builds Strong Leadership Skills

Colleges are not just looking for academic achievement; they want to see leadership potential. Through PALP, students learn hands-on leadership skills—whether they’re managing a team for a service project, communicating with peers, or speaking with community leaders. These experiences build confidence and give students practical skills that they’ll carry into college classrooms, internships, and future careers.
I have grown into a more confident and well-spoken leader due to my time in the Peace Ambassador Leadership Program. I used to lack proper public speaking skills and struggled with making quick decisions and being confident in them. Now, I am confident in my ability to be a leader and effectively make decisions that solve problems while also being empathetic and respectful.

2. Creates a Lasting Community Impact

One of the most powerful ways students can stand out in the college admissions process is through meaningful community service. PALP doesn’t just give students volunteer hours—it gives them the chance to design, lead, and execute their own service projects. This level of involvement goes beyond checking a box and shows a deep commitment to making a positive impact.

Not only does this experience boost your teen’s resume, but it also teaches them essential life lessons about responsibility, empathy, and perseverance. Imagine your teen discussing in their college essay how they helped create a community food pantry or organized a local clean-up initiative. Those are the kinds of stories that resonate with admissions committees.

When I first joined PALP, I told the Executive Director, Jowharah Sanders, that I always loved advocating for certain issues, but I never got to go out and do anything about it. She smiled at me and told me that I’m in the right place. In less than 6 months, I was able to proudly carry boxes of over 3,000 menstrual products to women in need. But PALP gave me a lot more: a community, important life skills, and most importantly, a voice

3. Enhances College and Scholarship Opportunities

In today’s competitive landscape, colleges and scholarship committees are looking for students who demonstrate leadership, initiative, and service. PALP participants gain an edge in the admissions process thanks to the program’s prestigious leadership roles and awards, like the Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). These accolades not only look impressive on applications, but they also reflect the student’s commitment to making a difference.

Picture your teen applying to their dream college, not just with a stellar GPA, but with a history of leadership and service. Whether they’re applying for scholarships or spots in selective programs, their PALP experience will help them stand out.

I have benefited from PALP NVEEE in many ways, for example, college readiness, social skills, and leadership skills. PALP NVEEE is the only program that I have been a part of that is active in the community and requires students to become active in their communities as well by creating teams and tackling issues that are not being brought to people’s attention.

4. Sharpens Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking

One of the key skills colleges are looking for is the ability to think critically and solve problems. PALP challenges students to tackle real-world issues—from local community problems to global concerns like climate change or social justice. Students learn how to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and put those ideas into action.

This experience in problem-solving prepares them for the kind of open-ended, creative thinking that college courses often require. When they’re faced with difficult projects or assignments in college, they’ll already have the tools they need to succeed.

5. Develops Emotional Intelligence and Resilience

Transitioning to college life can be overwhelming, but students who have strong emotional intelligence and resilience are much more likely to thrive. PALP emphasizes the importance of collaboration, empathy, and managing challenges effectively. These skills will help your teen navigate both the academic and social aspects of college life, as well as future career environments.

Imagine your teen facing their first challenging semester at college and knowing how to manage stress, work effectively in teams, and bounce back from setbacks with maturity. These are life skills that go far beyond the classroom.

“I feel PALP has led me to meet many like minded people who can all grow and mature together. I also feel that PALP has made me even more confident with myself. I love NVEEE and don’t know where I would be without it.”

I think my leadership has developed from being a follower to more of a leader. When I first came to the program, creating a service project seemed unfathomable and impossible to do. However, over time, during the PALP program, I’ve become more comfortable with leading.
